A message from Dawn Rubin, HNA Crime Watch & Disaster Prep Coordinator, who has been tracking the B&W Liquors issue for us:

Thursday, Jan. 26, the Berkeley Zoning Adjustments Board will resume discussion about the nuisance proceedings for Black & White Liquors, 3027 Adeline in Berkeley.  The meeting will be held in the Council Chambers at 2134 Martin Luther King, Jr. Way, 2nd Floor starting at 7 p.m.

The meeting minutes from the Dec. 8th ZAB meeting say they "directed Staff to prepare a resolution that determines a public nuisance and sets appropriate remedies, as specified by the Board. (8-0-0-1) (Absent: Anthony)."  At that meeting they also discussed various possible conditions, and asked staff to give the owner and his attorney a chance to respond.  I have been told there is a request for mediation instead of the nuisance declaration.

This will NOT be a public hearing, but public attendance at the meeting is very important.   This item should come up fairly early in the evening; it's first on the agenda after the consent calendar.

Please come be part of the process.  Whichever way you feel about this issue, this is your chance to be part of democracy in action.

Make sure your new year's gotten off to a good start by joining your neighbors for this fabulous post-holiday feast where we progress from house to house and sample a range of delicious courses. This is our most popular community potluck event of the year, so don't miss out! Feel free to join us at all three households, or just for one or two (substitute a dish if your name doesn't match the course you're attending). And don't forget to bring something tasty!
